Antidepressants are currently positioned as one of the main drugs prescribed and consumed worldwide, commonly used for the pharmacological management of certain psychiatric disorders, mainly depression. However, growing evidence shows that some of these compounds possess, in addition to their known antidepressant activity, other types of beneficial biological properties, which could lead to a “repurposing” of their clinical applications, thus offering new therapeutic options in different areas of Medicine, such as Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology.
