In order to describe the impact of pregnancy in adolescence and its association with risk factors and complications associated with pregnancy and childbirth, a medical literature review was conducted; 18 citations were revised from MedLine, LILACS and SciELO databases, including studies in Spanish and English languages. Pregnancy in adolescence period is a risk because physical and mental development is not yet reached at these ages and worse perinatal results are observed. The risks associated with pregnancy in adolescence are hypertension, anemia, low birth weight and premature birth; which determine an increase in maternal morbidity and mortality. Reducing the levels of pregnancy in adolescence is a great challenge and a health goal commitment all over the country, thus prevention strategies are a priority.
