Development of Chemistry Lesson Motivation Scale for Secondary School Students
Abstract
The purposeof this study is to develop a current, valid, reliable scale to measure secondary education students’ motivation toward performance and interest in chemistry related research; cooperative working and communication, participation in learning chemistry. A total of 336 students from different schools in Izmir participated in the study. As a result, a valid and reliable measurement tool with three sub categorieswas developed to measure motivation of high school students toward chemistry. Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient of the scale was 0.962, a reliabilitycoefficientof the subcategories range between 0.951 and 0.871. The weighing factors of the items range between 0.852 and 0.492. Total variance revealed by the items was found as 63.857%. As a result of the confirmatory factor analysis of the scale, RMSEA value was found as 0.09. Results demonstrated that the scale is a valid and reliable tool.
