The Revolutionary Spirit in Langston Hughes and Subramaniya Bharathi
Abstract
This article concentrates to bring out the revolutionary spirits for freedom, patriotic feelings for the mother country and love for the people found similar in the writings of Langston Hughes, Afro-American poet and Subramania Bharathi, Tamil poet from Tamil Nadu. Langston Hughes was a central figure in Harlem Renaissance in America during 1920 and 1940. He wrote for the freedom of the Negros in America, Africa and everywhere during the year between 1902 and 1967. He did not follow any conventional method for writing poetry. His verses are called free verse. He has written poems in dialect language and so his poetry is called dialect poetry. Bharathi wrote poetry for the freedom of India in Tamil language in Tamil Nadu for creating awareness and imparting the thirst for freedom among the Tamil people and people of India. He has a great mastery over the fundamental method of writing poetry and music though his poems come under the category of modern poetry. A flow of music can be felt when one reads his poems. It displays him as great master who can create a fine and attractive music through the composition of words. His poetic lines are highly musical and they express the meaning very powerfully and clearly in a very remarkably catchy way.
