PECULIARITIES OF AUDIOVISUAL TEXT TRANSLATION
Abstract
The article is devoted to urgent problems of the audiovisual texts translation and the distinctive peculiatities of film discourse as a form and source of social and cultural knowledge. The specificity of the audiovisual text as a whole and the animated text, in particular, is determined in the article. Such concepts as “cultural adaptation”, “lakuna”, “audiovisual translation”, and others have been analysed and methods of cinema discourse investigation have been determined. Effective methods of different types of audiovisual texts translation have been introduced. In this regard, the most significant competencies have been identified. The latter focus on the formation of the cinema discourse translation skills, which include general linguistic skills (characteristics of phonetics, grammar and stylistics of the source language), knowledge of the peculiarities of the script construction (possession of the main storylines of the script), intertextual, cultural and social knowledge (knowledge of the history of cinema, its genres, peculiarities of visual film effects, etc.). We hold that the information and plot-relevant intertextual elements contain national background knowledge, therefore culturally and linguistically conditioned adaptation is necessary. In this regard, species, as well as linguistic and extralinguistic factors of cultural adaptation are analyzed. The results of the study proved that intertextual elements that carry national background knowledge also need adaptation. It has been indicated that the problems of the audiovisual texts translation have not yet become the subject of any large-scale special studies in linguistics.
