Yeni Edirne Gazetesi'ne Göre Bulgaristan'dan Türkiye'ye Göçler 1950-1951

Abstract

Yeni Edirne Gazetesi, an important local newspaper since 19th century in Edirne, dealt with important developments during the first years of the Democratic Party. One of the most important issues of the time was the Turkish emigration from Bulgaria in 1950-1951. Yeni Edirne Gazetesi published several articles on the Turkish emigration. This study focuses on the reports of the newspaper and how it approached the causes of the emigration; the arrival of the emigrants at Edirne; the number of the emigrants; their occupations; their origins in Bulgaria; their reception in the city; Turkish government’s policy on the issue; the difficulties encountered by the emigrants; charity organizations that helped them; jobs provided for the emigrants.
