The aim of the article is to clarify the essence of the concept “service quality”, identify the key criteria affecting the assessment of service quality, and find the points of intersection between the capabilities of the manufacturer and the preferences of the consumer in the process of improving the service quality. In the article the author’s interpretation of the category of service quality is proposed. The carried out research allowed to identify the stages of the service process and offer the criteria for assessing the quality of customer service. Studying the possibilities of enterprises in terms of customer service quality and the preferences of customers themselves allowed to create a model for managing the quality of customer service, which enables taking into account the interaction of the producer and the customer in the process of improving the service quality. Prospects for further research in this area are the testing of the theoretical model for managing the quality of customer service on practical material in a particular industry.
