Travail et genre des géographes
Abstract
French geography has done little research on the working conditions of geographers themselves. In order to shed light on this field of research, this article focuses specifically on the gender of geographic work, by examining the specificities of women's professional practices. By considering, from an international perspective, the greater difficulties that women are facing in accessing geographic careers, we propose here to reflect on what an in-depth investigation of women's forms of geographic work could bring. We show that this question is not only due to a sociological reality (a lack of women) but also to consequent epistemological realities (a lack of diversity in the objects, approaches and tools of the discipline, among others). And we suggest methodological perspectives for a large-scale investigation of the working conditions of women in geography, including a call for greater consideration of emotional labor and teaching/coaching.
