Bibliografia Estatística e Bibliometria: Uma Reivindicação de Prioridades
Abstract
Os autores de países latinos devem estar de sobre-aviso contra omissões de trabalhos escritos em suas línguas por autores ingleses de estudos recapitulativos, eventualmente desconhecedores de línguas latinas. Bradford, por exemplo, deixou de citar os pioneiros brasileiros do Instituto Internacional de Bibliografia, em capítulo histórico de seu livro Documentação. Mais recentemente, outro autor inglês de igual categoria — o Sr. Alan Pritchard — cometeu quatro inexatidões em seu artigo "Statistical bibliography or bibliornetrics?", ao estabelecer a cronologia da utilização da expressão bibliografia estatística e a autoria da palavra bibliometria. Foi o falecido Paul Otlet quem, no Traité de documentation (1934) usou pela segunda vez aquela expressão, ao mesmo tempo em que cunhou a palavra correspondente, em língua francesa, a bibliometrics, isto é, bibliométrie. O Sr. Pritchard também deixou de citar o notável estudo de bibliografia estatística, escrito por Victor Zoltowski (1955) e baseado na análise da Bibliographie de la France, no período de 1812 a 1900. Abstract The authors from Latin nations must be alert against omissions of works written in neo-Latin languages in state-of-the-art reports by English language authors, eventually ignorant of that languages. The late S. C. Bradford, for example, in a historical chapter of his book Documentation, pass without notice about the Brazilian pioneers of the Inter-national Institute of Bibliography. Most recently, another British author of the same intellectual category — Mr. Alan Pritchard — makes four mistakes in his article "Statistical bibliography or bibliometrics?", when he laid down the chronology of the use of the term Statistical bibliography and the paternity of the word bibliometrics.It was the Belgian Paul Otlet who, in his Traité de documentation (1934) have used the French correspondent of that term for the second time and, for the first time, the word bibliometrics, that is, bibliométrie. Mr. Pritchard also omits a remarkable study of Statistical bibliography by Victor Zoltowski (1955), based on an analysis of Bibliographie de la France, from 1812 to 1900.
