As part of the global geochemical cycle of matter in nature, the hydrobiogenic-mantle concept of hydrocarbon formation has been developed, which allows for a reasoned use of the unifying genetic bases of laying hydrocarbon traps. The main mechanism of the genesis of hydrocarbons is the global cycle of matter in nature – water, biota and geological processes (geodynamics, geochemistry, geothermal), which corresponds to the forecasting and prospecting technology on oil and gas-bearing land areas, coastal slopes, shelf areas, and coal-bearing basins. Analysis of the location of hydrocarbon deposits allows us to give a new interpretation of their origin, especially giant deposits located in shelf zones, which depend not only on young faults, but also on the size of river systems, which form the quantitative characteristics of the latter. The conducted analysis of the location of oil and gas deposits and hydrogeological basins of world hydrocarbon production made it possible to justify and introduce one of the most important search criteria into the new search technology for hydrocarbon accumulations – hydrological-structural and geochemical elements that reflect the nature of the laying of canyons of delta river systems, as well as generators located in their basins hydrobiogenic methane-forming processes. The main goal of creating a new concept of the origin of hydrocarbons is the development of a new highly efficient search technology for oil and gas from rocks of the sedimentary cover and foundation in areas that correspond to their scientific justification according to the hydrobiogenic-mantle concept. The introduction of a new, highly efficient, low-cost technology of structural-thermo-atmospheric-hydrological-hydrogeochemical research, created on the basis of the hydrobiogenic-mantle concept of the origin of hydrocarbons, allows to reinterpret the results of earlier studies on the areas of explored structures and to provide a scientific purposeful justification for the development of new structures in the zones of continental depressions, river basins basins, their deltas and canyons of marine water areas.
