Abstract

The evolution of theoretical views, the change of paradigms as well as the observed processes and phenomena taking place in the world result in the fact that currently the development based on knowledge and innovations is becoming fundamental, also in the mezzo-economic dimension. In the second decade of the 21st century it is innovation that is increasingly associated with development, progress and introduction of positive changes in economy. Regional innovation is now a commonly used and intuitively understood term, but its multidimen-sionality makes the measurement ambiguous. The aim of the paper is to present the quantification of this research area and to demonstrate the results of provinces’ classification in Poland according to the innovation level.
