Large Tourism Projects in the Brazilian Savanna: The Disney Model in the Río Quente Resorts
Abstract
This article analyzes the implementation of Río Quente Resorts, a large tourism project in the Brazilian savanna, conceived along the lines of the Disney model. It discusses the phenomenon of Disneyfication, emphasizing the theatralization of the business world, collective consumption, and non-places. Río Quente Resorts introduces the most sophisticated leisure and entertainment equipment into the region where the country's most important hot water springs are located, but it neglects environmental sustainability. Tus, this mega-structure could cause irreversible damage to the ecosystem.
