Activation of the adipocyte CREB/CRTC pathway in obesity

Abstract

Yoon et al show that a high fat diet in mice activates the CREB/CRTC pathway in adipocytes by decreasing the expression of Salt Inducible Kinase 2 (SIK2), a Ser/Thr kinase that otherwise phosphorylates and sequesters CREB coactivators in the cytoplasm. Their data demonstrates the importance of the CREB/CRTC pathway in mediating effects of obesity on adipocyte function.
