The body’s subjectivity – forgotten or recognized in physiotherapy?

Introduction: The aim of the article is to illustrate how theory of the body is fundamental to the physiotherapy profession. Physiotherapists have in common that they affect and are affected by other people’s bodies. However, what sort of understanding of the body physiotherapists have in common must be clarified. Using the child’s body as case shows the relevance of the theory of the body. Main part: Physiotherapists can feel and perceive the others as well as his/her own body, as the bodies express themselves in action and in motion. To be profession-relevant, this insight needs to be theorized and included in the physiotherapist’s professional understanding of concepts. As case; applied research of children’s bodily learning. Conclusion: By combining theory referred to the body and the child as subject, the article contributes with insights continuing central research and literature relevant to physiotherapy.
