One of the deep beliefs of people is the belief in God. Although there are many deities in the religion, people have been worshipping some deities since the beginning of time till this time. In the Sangam Literature, there is a deity for each land as Murugan, Thirumal, Indran, Varunan and Kotravai. These deities are worshipped according to the five types of lands. In today’s time, one of the great deity worships is Shiva Worship. Tamils did not worship Shiva as a prime deity in the five lands of that time. So, it cannot be said that there was no God in the name of Shiva and there was no worship of Shiva during the Sangam Period. Although, there is a lot of information about Shiva found in Sangam Literature. This article speaks about the evidence found in the Sangam literature on Shiva and Shiva worship.
