João Cabral as a Gonsalves de Melo

Abstract

In 1978, João Cabral de Melo Neto wrote a poem for the debutante Ana Cecilia Freyre Pimentel, Gilberto Freyre’s grand daughter and cousin of the poet. Made for the family celebration, the composition starts the parental cord linking the author to the birthday girl by branch Gonsalves de Melo. Aside from that condition, Cabral’s poem just came to be reprinted in the volume of Nova Aguilar press Poesia Completa e prosa of 2008, whose assessment is guided by the particularities of its publication, in booklet and book.
