Modern Transformations in the Social Functions of Public Libraries

Abstract

Existing socio-economic transformations in ukrainian society made Ukrainian domestic public library to face the need to apply the experience of traditional functioning, taking into account the trends of the present. The transformation of public libraries main social functions incarnate in the implementation of new library services called to provide high-quality provision of growing multi-needs of modern users, are highlighted. The emergence of new approaches to the library's implementation of its social functions took place largely due to the introduction and development of information and communication technologies, their active integration into social processes, and the change in the contingent of library users. The dynamic nature of social functions allows libraries to adapt effectively to the requirements of modern society and actively respond to its social demands.
