During the Sangam period, Tamil Nadu was ruled by many kings. Among them were the three triumvirate kings; the Cheras, the Cholas and the Pandyas. The king has a oath of doing his duty to protect his country and his people. Although there are various special systems in the reign of the king there are a few contradictions with the neighbouring countries. There are lots of wars among the Tamil kings and are registered by the Sangam poets in Sangam Literature. From the sources, one can find that they have followed certain traditions with the aim of understanding the war and destroying the hostile country and plundering their resources to mitigate their power or to destroy them completely. Hence, the study is set to explore the issues through the facts from the literary evidences.
