Abstract | Full Text

The Sururu’s Imaginary: A Heritage Against the Grain - This essay discusses the cultural heritage, understanding as such the set of all assets, tangible or intangible with a symbolic value for the communities that produce and houses it. In the case of the city of Maceio, northeastern Brazil, there is the presence of Sururu (Mytella charruana), a shellfish widely consumed locally. Due to its biological and culinary peculiarities, wich are part of the local imaginarium. The Sururu is culturally associated with Alagoa’s culture. We seek to demonstrate that this is likely to be regarded as local heritage, despite its popular bias, against the position of local elites.
