This paper is based on our observations in 833 cases of facial clefts seen at Varanasi. The clefts predominated in males in the ratio of 2.1: 1. Isolated cleft palates were equal in the two sexes, Besides this cleft palate alone constituted a much higher percentage in some of the Northern Countries than observed in India. Other congential anomalies were present in 5%, of the cases.
