Operations management has been characterized by a thematic overlap between the areas of management science and production engineering science. In this sense, the purpose of this article is to analyze themes and research practices adopted by researchers who published articles related to these two fields between the years 2010 and 2012. We analyzed 258 articles published during this period, using descriptive statistics and cluster analysis of keywords. The results showed that applied research prevails in the field of management, whereas in the field of engineering production prevails the research based on evaluation of results. However, similar themes are particularly common in the analyzed journals, revealing that operations management is an area with strong presence in the field of management science and in the field of production engineering science.
