Identity and hope in Matteo Garrone’s adaptation of Giambattista Basile’s tale «The old woman who was skinned» read in the light of Gabriel Marcel’s and Ernst Bloch’s philosophy

Abstract

This brief essay tackles the fundamental connection between fairy tale and hope, between utopia and identity, through an analysis of Basile's "The old woman who was skinned" and Matteo Garrone's recent interpretation. This essay makes use of Ernst Bloch's works on utopia and Gabriel Marcel's Homo viator.
