Les figures royales dans l’historiographie communiste
Abstract
During the communist period, the first rulers of Greater Romania were an awkward, and later a taboo subject in a historiography that was characterised by historical materialism and anti-monarchism. Despite the national turn taken by the historical narratives during the 1960s, which repopulated the national pantheon with its pre-communist figures, King Ferdinand and Queen Mary remained absent from textbooks, articles and reference works. Their later reappearance coincides with the evolution of Ceauşescu’s regime towards ‘dynastic socialism’.
