A rare case of adult ileal-ileal intussusception secondary to inflammatory fibroid polyp (IFP): A case report
Abstract
Adult intussusception is an uncommon surgical phenomenon. Computed tomography (CT) is the most sensitive imaging modality to diagnose intussusception. However, given the uncertain aetiology and concern for potential malignancy, surgical intervention remains the gold standard for accurate diagnosis and treatment of adult intussusception. Inflammatory fibroid polyps are rare benign tumors that may occur in the gastrointestinal tract and act as a lead point for adult intussusception. We report a rare case of a 38-year-old female with adult ileal-ileal intussusception secondary to an inflammatory fibroid polyp, focusing on radiological and histopathological features.
