The media provide an informative treatment of the migration issue mainly from the perspective of the problem of the illegal arrival of immigrants, thus coinciding with the dominant institutional discourses. The hardening of immigration policy is fuelled by the construction of a dehumanised representation of the migratory phenomenon in the receiving society, essentially based on statistics. Showing the humanity of migrants and the uniqueness of each story in order to deconstruct the stereotypical representation of a hostile, threatening and invasive Other is one of the avenues that cinema can take through a fictional account.
