Walter Owen, the translator of Martin Fierro
Abstract
This article seeks to: i) deal with the translation into English of José Hernández’ Martín Fierro, undertaken by Walter Owen from a translator-as-cultural-agent-centered perspective; ii) explore into Owen’s active participation as a patron to the literary project; iii) analyze the “gaucho” representations as they appear in editorial paratexts; iv) unveil the source culture discourses interacting with new interpretations proving the production of new meanings that result from translation.
