Lustro della patria: riscoperta e conservazione dei dipinti urbinati di Federico Barocci nel terzo centenario della morte / The lustre of the Country: rediscovery and conservation of paintings by Federico Barocci in Urbino on the occasion of the third centenary of his death

Abstract

Nel 1912, al X Congresso Internazionale di storia dell'arte, Corrado Ricci presentò un dipinto attribuito a Barocci appena acquistato dallo Stato, puntando in tal modo l'attenzione su un artista conosciuto e studiato più all'estero che in patria. In occasione del terzo centenario della morte, ad Urbino si celebrò Barocci non solo con festeggiamenti cittadini, ma anche con la pubblicazione di Studi e Notizie su Federico Barocci. Il testo, una raccolta di saggi storico-critici e documentari sulla vita e sull'attività pittorica di Barocci, è segno tangibile del rinnovato interesse verso la figura del pittore, sancito dalla decisione di Lionello Venturi, all'epoca direttore della Galleria Nazionale delle Marche, di far combaciare l'inaugurazione del museo con le celebrazioni baroccesche e di realizzare il restauro dei dipinti del Barocci presenti in galleria. In 1912, at the 10th International Art History Congress, Corrado Ricci presented a painting attributed to Federico Barocci that was just purchased by the Italian Government. This drew the attention on an artist better known abroad than in Italy. During the third centenary of his death, the town of Urbino celebrated Barocci by publishing the book Studi e Notizie su Federico Barocci, a collection of historical and critical essays on Barocci's life and work. This book clearly showed a renewed interest in the painter that's why the director of National Gallery of Marche, Lionello Venturi decided to coincide the first opening of the museum with the celebration of the painter and to restore Barocci's masterpieces in the gallery.
