Treatment is limited, with the bisphosphonates being the mainstay of therapy. Risedronate has demonstrated fracture efficacy in women and efficacy has been recently been investigated in men. In men, risedronate either maintains or increases bone mineral density. In placebo controlled trials it has been shown to be safe and effective in preventing fractures. Keywords: male osteoporosis, risedronate, bone mineral density, fractures
