Chibcha civilization and the construction of New Granada nation
Abstract
The emergence of Chibcha civilization does not have any antecedent previous to the 1900’s, when it emerged in the nineteenth-century historiography. This paper problematizes and analyzes how the idea of Chibcha civilization, preceding the formation of a nation, was an argument put forward by 19th century historiography to create the idea of historic continuity and political unity in the New Granada nation.
