The Library’s Navigation Function in the Context of the Spread of Electronic Technologies

Abstract

The article deals with modern approaches to implementation libraries navigation function in the context of electronic technologies introduction, including Internet technologies, to social practice. We consider library as an authoritative document-information institution that helps people navigate the information flows, as it has the tools, technology and experience. The modern library is not only the library fund, but library resources. To ensure the use of library and informational resources by library users, the institution should establish a link between document and user. However, the continuous improvement of library and information technologies and the relevance of the problems causing the need for further study of modern approaches to implementation libraries’ navigation function based on determining the optimal ways of finding and providing access to information. The development of the navigation function is influenced by computer literacy increasing, which presupposes the orientation of users in information retrieval systems, the choice of a logical, expedient way and the optimal search strategy in information retrieval arrays.
