Library and information education: terminological approach

The terminological base of educational area in librarian research is analyzed in the article. The historical overview of library terminology is realized. It is revealed that the first attempts to define the terms of library sphere were committed in the 20 years of the twentieth century. The intensifications of the search and clarifying the librarian terminology were 60 - 70 years of the twentieth century. In this period reference books, dictionaries of library terms, collections of scientific works were published. Collections of research papers cover various issues of theory and practice of librarianship. With the formation of Ukraine as a sovereign state the rise of national research library terminology is observed. A number of articles and dissertations were dedicated to the formation and development of Ukrainian bibliographic terminology. However, the terms related to library and information education, as in the writings of scholars and modern dictionaries are absent, and those that were presented sometimes outdated and do not reveal the realities of modern problems. The article gives proofs of the definition of «library - information education» and suggests the interpretation of the terms «library degree and information education», «higher education library information».
