Characterization of hypertensive patients in a doctor´s office in the Guantanamo municipality

Introduction: arterial hypertension is the major cause of morbidity and mortality in many countries and in Cuba in recent years its prevalence rate has increased. Objective: to characterize the hypertensive patients belonging to the office of the doctor and nurse of the family #34 of the Guantánamo municipality, Guantánamo province in the month of March of the year 2022. Materials and methods: an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in hypertensive patients belonging to the doctor's and nurse's office of family # 34 of the Guantánamo municipality during the month of March 2022, with a universe of 90 hypertensive patients and for simple random sampling, the sample consisted of 33 patients. The variables sex, age, toxic habits, physical activity, other conditions were analyzed. The data was entered into a spreadsheet of the Office Excel program and tables were prepared to represent the data. Results: women predominated, representing 63.63%. The most represented age group was 60 years and over with 54.54%. Smoking was the most frequent with 72.72%. 75.75% did not perform any type of physical activity. 51.51% had diabetes mellitus as an associated disease. Conclusions: the female sex, the age group 60 years and over, smoking, lack of physical activity and the presence of diabetes mellitus are the characteristics of the hypertensive patients studied.
