Die Klage der Kaiserin (The plaint of the empress) is the only film directed by Pina Bausch. Sherealized this movie in the late Eighties, with her company, the Tanztheater Wuppertal, shootingespecially in outdoors: we can see the wood and the countryside, the suburbs and the city. Thedancers invest Wuppertal, the town where they work every day, with their poetic and their sceniccharacters; their actions have an illogical and alienating effect because they are totally in contrast tothe places, the time, the music. Urban and rural spaces are changed and charged with a dramaticsense while, at the same time, they affect the interior landscape of the dancers, who are absorbed init, and often lost in it.
