El Exilio Republicano Vasco y el miedo al contagio revolucionario en Venezuela: 1936-1958

Abstract

The article deals with the political persecutions that the Basque exiles went through in Venezuela between 1936 and 1958; their establishment and the political and cultural networks they developed either clandestinely or more openly depending on the Venezuelan government’s ideological proximity or antagonism with the Francoist regime. The restrictions and attacks to the Basques’ political activity unfold in an international context of Spanish Civil War between the Republicans of the Popular Front and the Nationalists on one hand, and a local context of ideological conflict within the revolutionary left wing in Venezuela on the other hand.
