Isabel de Palencia was not only an important figure in the literary circles and in journalism of the Spanish exile but also a very significant figure for the international agenda of the young Spanish Second Republic, especially in the International Labor Organization and the League of Nations. What we can observe in Palencia’s work on the international scene is the combination of all her strengths and skills, from acting, language, and writing, to fighting for the equal rights of women and children, to taking the stance she did on the international stage: for greater social justice, against poverty, for women’s equal rights, and for peace, against fascism, and especially for democratic Spain.
