In this note we analyze a special type of Eneolithic vessel from the old collections of the National Museum of Antiquities (‘Vasile Pârvan’ Institute of Archaeology) reconstituted from five fragments. The sherds belong to the settlement of Isvoarele – Fântânele (Giurgiu County) and were recovered by E. Comşa in the 1950s with the occasion of a survey in the southern part of Wallachia. Later, E. Comşa made a small archaeological research in the site establishing the stratigraphy and cultural sequence: two Boian-Spanţov levels and one belonging to Gumelniţa A2 (to which our fragmentary vessel can be attributed). We tried to discuss the analogies of this type of vessel at the Lower Danube and its possible functions, despite the fact that we know only a few recipients of this kind, due to the lack of large scale excavations in Gumelniţa area.
