During last decades a great number of companies and industries have increased their global orientation. For this reason, the internationalisation process has also had to be realized by family businesses as an instrument for expansion and growth. In this sense, we pay special attention to the comparison between family and non-family companies with the purpose of examining those differences or similarities between these two groups of firms attending to their international activity. From this comparative study, we will be able to establish a reference framework, for a later more in depth study of this phenomenon, in the case of family businesses.
