The effect of an industrial process of surface treatment ("fire jet") of ornamental rock slabs upon the mineralogical and textural characteristics of an igneous rock known commercially as "Pink Porriño" (Rosa Porriño) rom Galicia (NW Spain), has been studied by optical and electron microscopy. The most important physical properties of both treated and non-treated rocks have also been determined. As a result, it may be concluded that no significant changes in the mineralogical or textural characteristics, or in the physical properties, are caused by the proper application of the process. The refrigeration of the rock is essential: without it, the properties of samples change significantly.
