Introduction. The article is devoted to the relevant problem of the professional training Doctors of Philosophy in the field of education – the use of international scientometric databases to determine the scientific activity and productivity of future scientists. This problem is in line with the Ukrainian and foreign scientific research. The studies by Ukrainian scientists V. Bykov, O. Zhabin, L. Kostenko, O. Kuznetsov, L. Soroko, O. Spirin and others, by numerous foreign scientists, including J. Wang M. Amin, M. Mabe, A. Polyanin, D. Price, A. Prichard, demonstrate the integration of the Ukrainian science into the European and world educational space, and also reflect the processes of informatization of education at all its levels. Analysis of publications makes it possible to generalize the absence of holistic analytical studies on determining the effectiveness of scientific activity through the system of scientific metrics, in particular of future PhD in the field of knowledge “Education”. The purpose of the paper is to determine the key aspects of using world scientometric databases by the future scientists in order to improve scientists’ scientometric activity. The author describes the main quantitative scientometric indexes of article citation (impact factor, SCI citation index, Hirsch index), the most influential international scientometric databases (Scopus, Web of Science, Index Copernicus, Google Scholar, etc.), the system of scientometric monitoring subjects of the scientific activity in Ukraine “Ukrainian Index of Scientific Citation”, the system “Bibliometrics of Ukrainian science”, modern forms of open access to scientific research, in particular the Directory of Open Access Journals DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) are analysed. In conclusion, the main directions of using the international scientometric databases by future Doctors of Philosophy are defined: - assessing the relevance of the research and determining the research tasks; - searching for the literature that is necessary for the research; - assessing the scientific novelty of the research; - sharing the research results in influential, authoritative publications included in Scopus, Web of Science, Index Copernicus, etc. - defining the author’s article citation index (SCI) and h-index in order to study the productivity of individual scholars, editions and scientific and educational institutions; - using the open access scientific journals to study the degree of researching the chosen problem, to find editions for the publication of the results of theoretical and empirical research; - familiarizing with Creative Commons licenses and using them to support the principles of copyright and intellectual property of academics.
