L’immigration italienne dans le Gers
Abstract
This article, written in 1928, has remained unpublished. It is a study of the Italian immigration that arrived in the South West of France at the beginning of the 1920’s. Alphonse Dupront, then a student of the Ecole Normal Supérieure, approaches the subject via a field research that he carried out in his native department being the Gers (district of Condom). Whilst trying to understand the reasons of the flux, what motivated the immigrants, their settling conditions in this rural area, he also studies the role undertaken by the peasants and the landowners in the agricultural sector, as well as the start of the integration process of the immigrant population in local French society.
