Abstract

In nursing the sick child “ the nurse’s challenge is to maintain the perspective of the whole child - his total essence” . This requires the nurse to recognize and support the emotional and developmental needs of the sick child. The article discusses the therapeutic use of the self in caring for the sick child in order to meet these needs.
