Una nueva especie de spheniscidae del Mioceno Tardío de la Formación Pisco, Perú

Abstract

A new species of genus Spheniscus is described based on cranial elements from Late Miocene of Pisco Formation on the central-southern coast of Peru. The skull to rostrum proportion of this new species is bigger than any other species of the genus. Finally, the adaptative value of the observed characteristics is briefly discussed.
