The complexity which involves the new configuration in the cultural heritage field nowadays has challenged researchers to understand the social uses of the past, underpinned by the patrimonialization imperative, in perspective with the movement of memory expansion and identitarian dynamics. Despite the specificities of the instruments that support the institutionalization of cultural heritage in Brazil, although a hasty, careless look might categorize them as conceptual or methodological, in straight articulation with the material and immaterial dimension of an asset, we have tried to evidence that preservation as cultural heritage and registration are inserted in the logic of choices and value attribution, according to social and time contingencies under which they are built and located. As a writing mode from the past, reflections over the cultural heritage must consider it part of the effort by the agents (public authorities and social subjects) involved in the task of turning the time course experience into an experience which can be shared socially and collectively (GUIMARÃES, 2011). In face of the profusion of readings, appropriations and constructions of meanings around the cultural heritage, the article deals with this writing from a historical perspective, which aims at contributing to reflections over singularities in the processes of patrimonialization in its historicity.
