Femmes et politique : une nouvelle vision du XIXème siècle

Abstract

This article investigates research into the politics of events and events studies from a historical perspective which enlightens us with findings related to women and gender in the Hispanic world. The Nineteenth Century deserves special attention in this historical reappraisal since traditionally speaking it can be described as “highly masculine” as far as the portrayal of political history is concerned. The exception of the reigning Queens allows us to highlight the weight gender has when it comes to attributing places and roles in the political debates of the time and it helps explain the process of transformation of an institutional monarchy from the perspective of the liberal revolution. Studying the reigning Queens, Marie Christine de Boubon-Siciles and Isabelle II allows us to question the negative image that the press of the time gave to them and the way historiography has portrayed them. This investigation will generate further questions which should allow us to better understand the political issues in which these two historical figures found themselves entangled.
