The objective of this article is the examination of the presence of the decadent esthetic in the poetry of Gabriele D’Annunzio, the author who, without a doubt, was most admired in Italian artistic circles at the end of the 19th century. D’Annunzio’s poetry will be examined in all its phases, with reference to the sources and influences that are evident in his work.
