Green preparation of piperazine pyrophosphate and its application in flame-retardant silicone rubber
Abstract
The expansive flame retardant pipe-razine pyrophosphate was synthesized via "one pot method" using phosphoric acid and piperazine as raw materials. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was employed to characterize the resulting product. The properties of self-made piperazine pyrophosphate was compared with high-quality competitor in the market. The results revealed that self-made piperazine pyrophosphate met superior standards in terms of thermal stability, element content, and whiteness. When added into silicone rubber, self-made piperazine pyrophosphate improved significantly its limiting oxygen index from 22.8% to 27.2%, achieving a V-0 flame retardant grade while doubling its tensile strength. This method could achieve green preparation of piperazine pyrophosphate.
