The article deals with the mechanisms of linguistic manipulation potential of English business e-mails from the perspective of certain types of psychological manipulation patterns. Purpose. The goal of this research is to reveal and analyze the means of suggestion, which authors of business e-mails use depending on their ego-states. The subject matter is specifically marked elements of business English e-mails aimed at meeting addresser’s objectives. To maximize the phenomenon of linguistic manipulation in business discourse it is suggested to integrate the theory of Eric Berne’s transactional analysis with pragmalinguistic paradigms. Methodology. Survey methods include general scientific methods of analysis and synthesis, cognitive analysis, content-analysis, script-analysis and linguistic analysis of means of suggestion. Results. Most significant estimates of this research are the following: the style of electronic business interaction depends on ego-states of its participants and is framed by a particular pattern. The choice of means of linguistic manipulation is predetermined by pragmatic aims of an addressee and represented on linguistic and macrolinguistic levels. Practical implications. The results of the study can be applied in the sphere of psycholinguistics that explains behavior of producents in business cyber discourse as well as in the theory of intentionality of verbal behavior.
