Abstract

Varro of Atax’s fragment 17 Blänsdorf is ascribed to the Chorographia by most modern editors. Through the exam of some characteristic features of Varro of Atax’s translation practice, it is proposed to frame the fragment within the author’s translational production. This enables to reassess Ruhnken’s ancient proposal of assignation to the Argonautae and, consequently, the comparison of the fragment with Apoll. Rh. 4.1561.
