Abstract
Background: Phloridizin is a phenolic phytoconstituent and a glucoside derivative of Phloretin, which is a Dihydrochalcone, belonging to the family of bicyclic flavonoids. It was first isolated from the bark of the apple tree. Phloridzin (PZ or phloretin-2′-O-glucoside) is an important derivative of flavonoid glycoside, mainly found in the apple peels. Method: Literature was collected from 1988 to 2021 out of which containing 348 articles 313 for the next 10 years and 424 and more than 800 from 2000 onwards to till 2021, the studies were conducted on various aspects including agricultural, nutritional supplements, preclinical and clinical findings on Phloridizin. The Figure represented detailed literature collected from Pub med central. Results: It covers about the efficient sources of Phloridzin. This review confers about the preclinical and clinical application of Phloridizin in metabolic disorders. Conclusion: It summarizes about the therapeutic application of Phloridizin along with approaches to overcome its limitations for better clinical application.
