The Second Theoreticism of Louis Althusser --- In 1974, Althusser denounced his previous distinction between science and ideology as being theoreticist. He blames himself for reducing the problematic of the epistemological cut to epistemology, and thus overlooking its condition in the realm of politics. He locates the causes for this theoreticism in his fidelity to Spinoza. The thesis of the work is, that Althusser’s endeavor to connect scientific problematic with politics, which we witness after 1967, is unwarranted, as Spinoza, during the transition from the Treatise on the Emendation of the Intellect to Ethics, encountered the same problem of material situatedness of knowledges as Althusser. He solves it by introducing a second type of knowledge, missing in the Treatise. The article argues that, contrary to unwarranted anti-theoreticist pretensions to ground knowledge in class position, the real theoretical kernel of Althusser’s inferences functions according to the logic conceptualized by Spinoza.
